Following Middlesbrough Home and Away
Supporting Middlesbrough Football Club has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories involve going to matches with my dad, and over the years those trips have become something I look forward to every single week. Whether it’s a home game at the Riverside or an away day somewhere across the country, being part of the Boro support is something that I am incredibly proud of.
Growing Up with Boro
I was only around five years old when I first went to watch Middlesbrough, so I cannot remember every detail of that first game. What I do remember is that my dad was the one who introduced me to supporting the club, and from that moment football became a huge part of my life. Looking back now, I realise that those early trips to the Riverside were about much more than just watching a game. They were about spending time together and creating memories that would stay with me forever.
Today, I have a season ticket and go to every home game. There is something special about arriving at the stadium, seeing the crowds build up and feeling the excitement before kick-off. Every match is different, and that is what makes football so enjoyable. You never know who is going to score or whether your team is going to win, but you always believe that something special could happen.
One of the best things about following Middlesbrough is seeing all my friends at the games. Football has a way of bringing people together, and whether we win, lose or draw, there is always something to talk about afterwards. It has become a huge part of my life and something I hope to continue doing for many years.
Unforgettable Away Days
Although I love going to the Riverside, there is something different about an away day. Travelling with thousands of other supporters and backing your team in someone else’s stadium creates an atmosphere that is hard to describe unless you have experienced it.
My favourite away day has to be Manchester United away in the FA Cup. We were massive underdogs, and not many people expected us to get a result. The game itself was incredible, but the penalty shootout is something I will never forget. When the winning penalty went in, the away end exploded. Around 10,000 Middlesbrough fans were jumping up and down, hugging each other and celebrating together. The scenes were unbelievable and showed exactly what football can mean to people.
Another unforgettable memory was watching Middlesbrough play Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. I went with my dad and my cousin, and when Hayden Hackney scored to make it 1-0, the Riverside erupted. It was honestly the loudest I have ever heard the stadium, and the feeling of celebrating that goal with everyone around me was something that will stay with me forever.
Why Middlesbrough Means So Much
For me, supporting Middlesbrough is about much more than football. It is about family, friendships and being part of a community that shares the same passion. My favourite player has always been Jonny Howson because he represented everything I admire in a footballer. He was always consistent, worked hard every game and played with real passion for the club.
One of the things I love most is how football brings people together. My family all enjoy going to the games, and it gives us the chance to spend quality time together while supporting the team we love. Win or lose, the memories we create are something that cannot be replaced.
If I could choose one perfect Middlesbrough moment, it would be a sold-out Riverside Stadium with promotion to the Premier League on the line. We would only need one point, but instead we would go out and win 3-0, celebrating together as the final whistle blew. Seeing Middlesbrough return to the Premier League, where I believe the club belongs, would be an unforgettable day and the ultimate reward for every supporter who follows the team home and away.
